Program Description

The field of Biomedical Sciences encompasses both biology & medicine to solve human health issues. PAF-IAST, Haripur is the first institute in KP to establish Department of Biomedical Sciences. The teaching and research at Department focus on various aspects of medical sciences, ranging from fundamental understanding of molecular basis of cells & their interactions, to highly advanced area of knowledge related to comprehension of human pathologies. Our institute is first in the country to offer a dual degree in the field of biomedical sciences in collaboration with Austrian Institutions. Foremost, the Department aims to deliver students with an exceptional and individualized educational experience to enable them to skillfully solve biomedical science related problems. This is the only Biomedical Science Department of the country that will have a close collaboration with medical research Institutions and Industries. Further, the teaching methods adopted by the faculty will ensure enhanced learning, as the approach will solely be centered on students and will be practical. Our graduates are expected to make valuable contributions to the fields of biology and medicine through new discoveries and advancements in diagnosis and therapeutics of human diseases. These graduates will also contribute to bring improvements in emerging biomedical technologies such as medical imaging, wearable devices, assistive technologies, cell and tissue engineering, molecular diagnostics, personalized medicine, regenerative and nanomedicines, stem cells and cell reprogramming.

Location and Ambience

PAF IAST is nestled in natural mountains that flank its campus from all sides. The institute offers one  ravishing view of snow-capped peaks of Nathiagali and natural winding trails. Furthermore, to its north-west is Tarbela Lake, a journey of only a few kilometers from the campus. Moreover, set in the middle of the campus is a natural lake, fed by the springs of surrounding mountains. The campus is just a 3-kilometer drive from the Hazara Motorway. The institution is ideally cut out for imparting state-of–the-art engineering and allied education in Pakistan. Moreover, the institute enjoys close linkages with top ranking universities in Austria and China. As a result, we have already concluded with them formal agreements regarding student and faculty exchange programs, provision of dual degrees in certain areas, and the training support from foreign faculty.

On-Spot Industry Internship

Firstly, it will be a mandatory requirement for every student to do an internship every semester in an appropriate industry. Secondly, this will garner them practical experience related to their respective degree programs. To crown it all, Technology Park will afford them rare opportunities to apply themselves innovatively and become promising entrepreneurs.
