Program Description

Nutrition is a biological process that utilizes the nutrients provided by food or other sources for the survival and growth of the organism. The arena of scientific pursuits in nutrition as a science is very broad. People from a wide variety of fields specializes in specific areas of nutrition that are related to their original field of study may call themselves nutritionists e.g. veterinary scientists, plant scientists, food scientists, physicians, pharmacists, biochemists may all be titled nutritionist after getting some expertise in nutrition though they have very diverse expertise in relation to nutrition. Human nutritionists study about various aspects of human nutrition and have much more comprehensive knowledge than the other kind of Nutritionists.

  • Establish Internationally accreditable undergraduate and postgraduate professional education programs in Human Nutrition and Dietetics.
  • Undertake, promote and support research that can provide evidence base for resolving human nutrition issues
  • Liaison with the industry and corporate sector to facilitate provision of nutrition promoting product and services
  • Liaison with private and public stakeholders to Undertake, promote and support projects to promote nutritious and safe diets and healthy life styles.

Location and Ambience

Natural mountains nestle PAF IAST that flank its campus from all sides. The institute offers one  ravishing view of snow-capped peaks of Nathiagali and natural winding trails. Furthermore, to its north-west is Tarbela Lake, a journey of only a few kilometers from the campus. Moreover, set in the middle of the campus is a natural lake, fed by the springs of surrounding mountains. The campus is just a 3-kilometer drive from the Hazara Motorway. This results in an ideal setting equally conducive to academic activity. Most importantly, major cities like Islamabad, Abbottabad, are just an hour’s drive, while small towns like Wah, Hasanabadal, Taxila, and Swabi can be reached in just half an hour.

This institute is an emerging center of excellences, with its own technology park. Therefore, all faculty members hold PhD degrees in appropriate disciplines. Firstly, it will be a mandatory requirement for every student to do an internship every semester in an appropriate industry. Secondly, this will garner them practical experience related to their respective degree programs. Different types of local and foreign scholarship opportunities are available on need and merit base.

Scope

Human Nutritionists and Dietetics can work as a dietician in hospitals and Nutritionists in health clinics, health centers, and MNCs. Graduates can also work as a project assistant, project associate, chief nutritionist in NGO’s and private organizations.
