Dr. Rana Muhammad Asad Khan: is a graduate of Mining Engineering from University of Engineering and Technology, Lahore. After completing his Bachelor’s, he served as Lecturer at the same educational institution for a period of one year. Simultaneously he started Master’s in Mining Engineering. In his master’s dissertation he worked on the “Up-gradation of Carbonaceous Shale using physical cleaning methods for the extraction of Coal”. He proved himself to be a detailed and capable research fellow having more than 12 years of experience in the field of Mining Engineering, ranging from Academia, Field, Research and Development.
He gained practical experience of drilling & blasting and transportation at mining section of a cement factory while serving as Trainee Engineer. Soon, he joined Nelum Jhelum Hydropower Project as Junior Engineer-Tunnels and Underground Structures. During his service he was promoted to Assistant Residence Engineer (ARE-Tunnels and Underground Structures). In total, he gained three years of experience including Tunnel Excavation by Drill and Blast, Rock Mass Classification, and Tunnel Support design. He along with his team successfully reduced Tunnel Support according to site conditions and satisfactorily convinced design team.
In 2014, he secured a national scholarship for pursuing his master’s leading to Ph.D. in Smart Mines and Underground Structures from Hanyang University, Seoul, South Korea. After completing his Ph.D, he came back to Pakistan and joined University of Lahore, as Assistant Professor. Where he served more than one and half year. Previously, he served National University of Sciences and Technology (NUST), Islamabad. Recently, Dr. Khan joined Pak-Austria Fachhoschule: Institute of Applied Sciences and Technology, Mang, Hairpur, KP.
He has versatile extensive experience of research, teaching, field, and developmental projects. He worked in and reported at field project: hydropower (tunnels, slope, and geology) and cement factory (Surface hard rock and soft clay mining, managing mining transport), as well as at research projects: Internet-of-Things (IoT) based remote monitoring of underground structures (Mines, Tunnels, and Cravens), utilization of 3D printing concrete for mines support and Tunnels Lining, and Robust Construction Safety System (RCSS) for ensuring safety from working machinery at mining sites. Highly motivated about innovative field developments, research and teaching in Mining Engineering. Currently, he is involved in the adoption of Blockchain technology in the fields of Mining and Civil Engineering. He has published twelve (12) ISI index impact factor papers and has presented at five (05) international conferences. Moreover, he is actively involve in research projects as PI as well as Co-PI.
