Dr. Shah Faisal serves as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Pharmacy at Pak-Austria Fachhochschule: Institute of Applied Sciences and Technology (PAF-IAST), Haripur. He earned his Ph.D. in Pharmaceutical Sciences, specializing in Pharmacy Practice, from the Faculty of Pharmacy, Universitas Airlangga, Indonesia. Graduating cum laude, he was recognized as the Best PhD Graduate for his exceptional research and academic distinction. He also holds a master’s degree in Pharmaceutical Sciences (Pharmacy Policy and Management) from Universitas Airlangga and a Doctor of Pharmacy (Pharm-D) from the University of Swabi, Pakistan. Dr. Faisal’s research is centred on pharmacy practice, pharmacoepidemiology, pharmacovigilance, polypharmacy, and patient safety. His doctoral work explored the prevalence, predictors, and longitudinal impact of polypharmacy on adverse health outcomes among elderly patients in Pakistan and Indonesia, integrating cross-national data to uncover important insights into medication safety and geriatric care. His studies have contributed to the understanding of the use of excessive medications, medication adherence, quality of life, social isolation, drug–drug interactions, and the rational use of medicines in low- and middle-income healthcare settings. He has authored a growing portfolio of peer-reviewed articles in leading international journals. His work consistently bridges clinical evidence with real-world application, reflecting his commitment to improving patient safety and medication management globally.
Dr. Faisal is a frequent speaker and presenter at international conferences and symposia across Asia. He has delivered invited talks and keynote lectures at the International Military Medicine Symposium and Workshop (Jakarta, 2024), Public Health International Competition (Surabaya, 2024), Strada International Conference on Health (Kediri, 2024), and The First International Symposium on Patient Safety and Quality (Surabaya, 2023). He has also presented his research at prestigious gatherings such as the Asian Conference on Clinical Pharmacy (ACCP, Nagoya, Japan, 2022), International Society of Pharmacovigilance (ISoP, Bali, 2023), and US–Thai Pharmacy Consortium Conference (Bangkok, 2024) and International Conference on Academia-Community Engagement (Kualalampur, 2023). His contributions to pharmacy education and research have been recognized with several distinctions, including the Best PhD Graduate Award (Universitas Airlangga), Best Speaker Award (First International Symposium on Patient Safety and Quality, 2023), Best Student Speaker Award (ACCP, Japan), and the Airlangga Development Scholarship (ADS) for both Master’s and Doctoral studies.
Before joining PAF-IAST, Dr. Faisal served as an Assistant Professor at CECOS University of IT and Emerging Sciences, and as a Visiting Researcher at the Center of Excellence for Patient Safety and Quality, Universitas Airlangga. Earlier in his career, he gained hands-on clinical and community experience as a Community Pharmacist at Rexdale Pharmacy and Clinics, and a Hospital Pharmacist Intern at Shifa International Hospital, Islamabad. With a diverse academic and professional background spanning Pakistan, Indonesia, and Southeast Asia, Dr. Faisal remains deeply committed to advancing patient safety, rational pharmacotherapy, and evidence-based pharmaceutical education. His work reflects a passion for improving medication use practices and developing future pharmacists equipped to meet global healthcare challenges.
